Filmmaker Michael Cardoza traveled alongside Mega Ran and soul/funk band, The Lo-Classics, through three cities and got more than he bargained for:
“I saw so much more than a music tour… I saw friends and teammates bound together by a mutual passion for music and for putting on a great show. They all have different personalities, and they all came together so perfectly over that weekend,” Cardoza says of the time he spent with the group filming.
Over several days in February, 2014, Philadelphia-born Mega Ran and Phoenix, Arizona-based band The Lo-Classics joined forces for Mega-Lo-Mania , a mini-tour that would span Tempe, AZ, Hollywood, CA and Las Vegas, NV. What ensued was sometimes amazing, sometimes chaotic, but always entertaining.
“I had a blast,” Ran says of the tour. “It didn’t totally go as I’d expected, but I think that’s the best story to tell; that it won’t always work out 100% according to plan, and that making adjustments on the fly is such a big part of what we do. I love the way the documentary came out.”

The five-man band most notably linked with Mega Ran at a show-stealing performance in Seattle, WA in 2013 at PAX (Penny Arcade Expo), playing for over 2,500 people in a packed room at The Paramount Theater. Since then, they’ve played shows with acts like The Protomen, MC Frontalot, and The Megas, among others.
Mega-Lo-Mania , The 30-minute-long documentary film, will premiere at FilmBar, an award winning wine bar and movie theater in central Phoenix on Friday, August 22 at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. A full list of showings across North America are as follows:

About Mega Ran
When LA Weekly named Random aka Mega Ran one of “Five Artists Who Will Be Big in 2014,” Ran instantly took a photo of the article and made it his default picture on Facebook and Twitter.
“It wasn’t to brag,” he said, “It was to keep the pressure on myself… I wanted to see it every day.” Pressure is no new thing for a man who spent his days teaching middle school, his evenings grading papers, and his late nights rocking stages.
In the past five years, Mega Ran has managed to run through barriers like Mario with an invincibility star, from placing music in television and videogames to touring with acclaimed hip-hop stars and playing thousand-person festivals.
“I’m on a mission to help bring hip-hop into a new frontier,” he says. With an unprecedented licensing agreement with gaming giant CAPCOM, and constant appearances on a variety of sites like VICE, Nerdist, The Verge, The Source and Game Informer under his utility belt, the mission is fully underway.
